The Cotton Gin
Andrea Brecheen

The cotton gin was one of the most amazing and tragic inventions of early America. The cotton gin is credited to the brilliant and creative American inventor Eli Whitney. Because Whitney's invention made cotton harvesting easier, it allowed farmers in the South to increase production. The cotton gin simplified the process of removing the cotton from the seeds, a process formerly done by hand.

As a result, Southern plantations increased their production of cotton from 750,000 bales in 1830 to 2.85 million bales just 20 years later. Because of the increase in production, the farmers in South became even more dependent on cotton for revenue. This new reliance on cotton increased the need for slavery. More slaves were needed to farm the ever expanding cotton plantations. If Whitney had known the effects his invention would have on slavery, he never would have created it.

Which of the following would best support the author's claim that more slaves were needed after the invention of the cotton gin? (7 points)

Examples of other inventions that affected slaves' lives
Information related to the life and times of Eli Whitney
Stories of the first time people saw the cotton gin working in the field
Details about the number of slaves working cotton 20 years after the cotton gin

Answers

The reason why they needed more slaves after the boom of the Cotten gen is because it made it worth having slaves due to the Cotten gen doing most of the work and therefore having more slaves and cotton gens=more cash

answer:

no, i do not. i personally don't believe that the south had any reason to fire upon fort sumter. and from what i've learned and read about, the only reason the south attacked fort sumter was to not seem weak. which if you ask me is pretty foolish. and yes i do believe that the south's attack on fort sumter is what caused and started - but mainly started, the civil war. and quite honestly, i think that the confederate states would in fact still exist if the south hadn't felt the need to attack fort sumter.

Legend has it that a Philadelphia seamstress named Betsy Ross was hired by George Washington himself to create this flag. There is no evidence that this legend is true, and no one knows for certain who made the first flag, which had 13 stars and 13 stripes. However, we know for a fact that the first flag to have 50 starsthe one we have todaywas designed by a high school student. In 1958, Bob Heft was a 17-year-old student at Lancaster High School in Ohio. At that time, the United States had only 48 states but was on the verge of accepting two more: Alaska and Hawaii. The U.S. flag at the time had six neat rows of eight stars each. What would be the best way to add two more stars while keeping the arrangement neat and orderly? This was the question that Bobs history teacher posed to the class. The teacher gave the students an assignment: design a flag with 50 stars. Bob spent hours in the attic of his house, cutting up a 48-star flag and rearranging the stars until they fit just right. He was pleased with his solution to the problem, but his teacher found it less than perfect and gave him a B minus. Outraged, Bob told his teacher that he was going to send his design to his member of Congress, Walter Moeller. His teacher replied that if Bobs design was accepted as the new flag, he would be more than happy to change the grade to an A. A year later, Bob had graduated and was working as a draftsman when he received a call at work. He never would have imagined a call from President Eisenhowerbut that's who it was! Now that Alaska and Hawaii had been admitted as states, Congressman Moeller had succeeded in having Bob's design chosen as the new U.S. flag. Bob Heft was invited to Washington, D.C., for a ceremony during which his design was officially adopted as the new flag of the United States.Which statement best describes the authors viewpoint toward Bob Heft in A Flag with 50 Stars?Bob was not a very good student at Lancaster High School.Bob should not have contacted a member of Congress about a trivial matter.Bob's grade did not reflect the outcome of the story.Bob should not have spent so much time on his project. why is night blindness regarded as a non infectious disease Isabel Allende y Octavio Paz usaban las imgenes de ________ en sus novelas para traer un elemento extrao a sus obras LearningDiagnosticAnalyticsRecommendationsskill plansMathE StandardsAlgebraXS Exponential growth and decay: word problems UKOIf a city with a population of 100,000 doubles in size every 28 years, what will the populationbe 56 years from now? 3(-2p-1)=-6p -3Need help for this equation immediately have to turn it in tomorrow its pre algebra what poets are ur personal favorite?
