Answer:
Explanation:
Dear friend,
It is not easy writing this letter. We haven’t spoken in a while. I don’t know what has happened in your life, and you don’t know what has happened in mine, so it’s hard starting the letter from such an uncertain point. Yet, I have a strong desire to write this to you because I really miss you.
I’ve thought about reaching you before, but my pride has always stopped me. There could always be an excuse. The truth is, I just didn’t want to be the one to reach out first. But I found the notes we passed years ago, and it brought back all the happy memories and nostalgia. That is when I decided I will stop waiting and do what I wished to do – write to you.
Despite our argument, you have always been my great friend, someone who’s been by my side and with whom I shared many great moments. It’s a silly thing that one quarrel will tear down the years of our friendship. With this letter, I wish that we can both make amends and reconcile, because of the long life our friendship had.
I am truly sorry because of our fight and I deeply regret all the things I have said. In anger, we sometimes say things we don’t really mean and regret them later, and that was exactly the case. But I understand how my words might have hurt you and it hurts me if I caused you that distress. I hope you will accept my deepest apologies for all that has happened and forgive me. I can promise you that I have changed over this time we haven’t spoken and that I am not as hotheaded as I was then. I think more before I speak and I reason my arguments calmly. There were many things to learn from our sad parting, and it took me some time to understand them but I did. In return, I offer you my forgiveness and strong desire to reconcile. I miss you as my friend and I wish to have you again in my life.
When you read this, please remember all our laughs and joined mischiefs, our happy walks, and talks, all secrets we shared. Remember all the happy times and good moments we shared, and just imagine if we can share them again. I certainly hope you have a great wish for that because I do.
Please write back to me. Even if you are still angry, we can talk and fix it all. Please give our friendship a chance. You are an amazing person and a great friend, and I wish to have you back in my life so much.
Use the poem to answer the question. (Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Ozymandias”)
Shelley was not a supporter of the King of England, George III. Which sentence best explains how this idea is expressed in the poem?
A. Shelley uses a fearful tone to highlight threats posed by the king.
B. The phrase “wrinkled lip” suggests Shelley thinks the king is unattractive.
C. Shelley sees himself as the traveler, reflecting his desire to be away from court.
D. The phrase “the hand that mocked them” shows that he felt the king mistreated artists.
E. The phrase “sneer of cold command” reflects Shelley’s idea that a king may harm his subjects.
Answer:
E. The phrase “sneer of cold command” reflects Shelley’s idea that a king may harm his subjects.
Explanation:
Lines 10-11, "'My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: / Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!' ", there are no terms, in the poem, to make the tone feel fearful about the king.
Line 4, "Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown, " the poem does not set whether the king is attractive.
Line 1 and 14, "I met a traveller from an antique land... The lone and level sands stretch far away." These do not show a desire to be away.
Line 8, "The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed: " the hand was the sculpture's hand and the poem doesn't state whether or not the kind mistreated the artist by having him build a huge statue of himself.
Line 5, "And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, " shows that the sculpture didn't favor the king making him look older and less desirable as if he is to harm his people.

Which sentence in the passage best shows that the Guadalupe Mountains have been home to an array of people?
excerpt from The Guadalupe Mountains
No one knows exactly when the first people came to the Guadalupe Mountains in far west Texas, but archaeological evidence dates back over 10,000 years ago. The earliest inhabitants were hunter-gatherers who followed available game and ripening vegetation. They lived in and among the many caves and alcoves common throughout the range. Scattered evidence of their existence, including projectile points, baskets, pottery, and rock art has been found throughout the mountain range.
Since then, many different groups have moved in and out of the area, including the Spanish who arrived by the mid 1500s.There is little evidence of any attempts on their part to penetrate the Guadalupes. No large-scale settlements have been located. Their influence was significant, though, because they introduced horses into the area. For the bands of Apaches who roamed freely over much of the southwest, horses quickly became an asset to their nomadic lifestyle. The Mescalero Apaches followed game, much as the earlier peoples had done, and they also harvested the agave (or mescal) for food and fiber. Mescalero is name given to them by the Spanish. It means mescal-maker. Agave roasting pits and other remains of Mescalero campsites are common in mountains.
The sentence in the passage that best shows that the Guadalupe Mountains have been home to an array of people is: "Since then, many different groups have moved in and out of the area, including the Spanish who arrived by the mid 1500s."
This sentence suggests that various groups have been living in the Guadalupe Mountains over a long period of time. The passage also mentions the earliest inhabitants who lived in caves and alcoves, followed by the Mescalero Apaches who hunted and harvested agave.
The Spanish also had some influence in the area by introducing horses, but there is little evidence of large-scale settlements.
The scattered evidence of human existence throughout the mountain range, including projectile points, baskets, pottery, and rock art, further supports the idea that the Guadalupe Mountains have been home to many different groups of people over thousands of years.
Therefore, the sentence about different groups moving in and out of the area is the most accurate and concise way to show that the Guadalupe Mountains have a rich history of human habitation.

Rosetta stone
Explanation:
The Rosetta Stone
In 1799, when Napoleon’s army was dismantling a wall in Rashid, Egypt, they discovered the Rosetta Stone. Little did they know that this 11-inch thick piece of rock would be one of the greatest discoveries in history! It contained Egyptian scripture, with Greek also on the stone. This was used to decode the once lost Egyptian writing system. Before the 1800’s, attempts at trying to uncover the secrets held by the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics found on walls inside numerous tombs were useless. The pictures were falsely believed to be symbolic, representing some sort of object or idea. Something soon changed all of this misconception. 1799 was the year of a great breakthrough in Egyptology.
Another man who devoted many years of his life to studying the stone was Jean-Francois Champollion. After many years of perseverance, Champollion finally translated the stone in 1822. He accomplished this feat by first recognizing that hieroglyphs were not symbols, but instead were associated with phonetics, as Thomas Young had proved. (Andrews 166) His first major breakthrough in his studies was in 1808, when he resolved those fifteen signs of the demotic script related with alphabetic letters from the Coptic language. From this he concluded that Coptic language must be based on the remnants of the last of the ancient Egyptian language, and written with the Greek alphabet, which is why it was readable to Champollion and other scholars researching the stone. Also, that the hieroglyphic text was a translation of the Greek, not the reverse, as had been previously believed. By 1818, Champollion had successfully concluded that though some signs were basically ideograms, many of the glyphs had phonetic value, meaning the ancient Egyptian script was at least partially alphabetic. (Giblin 83) He came to this conclusion after referring back to three other different forms of Egyptian writing and also using Coptic as a reference.

Answer:
Explanation:
When it was discovered nobody knew how to read Ancient Egyptian. Because the inscriptions say the same thing in three different languages, the Rosetta Stone became a very valuable piece of evidence. Through the work of many people, it took over 2 months to uncover what the Rosetta Stone had to say. The Rosetta Stone is a piece of rock that was written on and was made to honor an Egyptian Pharaoh. The Rosetta stone today actually has many locations and some are relocated today, mainly because it make sit harder to be stolen. And because there is only one Rosetta stone other museums have papers and other documents that describe what the Rosetta Stone is about. Also, the documents discovered the Rosetta Stone on 15 July 1799 while digging the foundations of an addition to a fort near the town of Rashid (Rosetta) in the Nile Delta. It had apparently been built into a very old wall. The officer in charge, Pierre-François Bouchard, realized the importance of the discovery.

1. Hurricane Katrina is the non-human subject.
2. Words and phrases like;
becomes throat,
I become a mouth, thrashing hair, an overdone eye
my thirst

a crime behind my teeth
I console myself
to define my body
give the subject human qualities.
Explanation:
Personification is the literary style of assigning human attributes to a non-human subject. This literary technique was vastly applied in the poem, 5 P.M., Tuesday August 23, 2005 by Patricia Smith. The hurricane which was formerly calm as described by the opening words, "A muted thread of gray light, hovering ocean", suddenly gathers the energy to cause mayhem.
It becomes a throat-human quality, that swallows everything around it. Many other human attributes are used to qualify the problems caused by the hurricane.

Read the excerpt from Does My Head Look Big in This? By Randa Abdel-Fattah. At Hidaya the hijab was part of the uniform. But I used to take it off as soon as I stepped outside the school gates because man oh man do you need guts to get on public transportation with it on. At the end of the school day the trains would be absolutely packed with schoolkids. I could keep wearing it if I hopped on with a group of Hidaya students because I wouldn't feel so exposed. But the problem was that I had to change trains to get home and there was no way I had the courage to go the distance alone with it on. Which phrases from the text best show the narrator's attitude? Select three options. "need guts" "outside the school gates" "group of Hidaya students" "so exposed" "no way I had the courage"
Answer:
"need guts"
"so exposed"
"no way I had the courage"
Explanation:
Randa Abdel-Fattah's debut novel "Does My Head Look Big in This?" tells the story of a young Palestinian-Australian girl who is in a conflict between her traditional beliefs and her adoptive home of Australia. The story delves into the courageous girl's life, and how Muslim girls who are in a dilemma between maintaining their beliefs and trying to fit in with the Australian people can relate to her own experience.
In the given excerpt from the text, the speaker admits she did put on the hijab within the school's premises. But once out of that atmosphere, she would remove them in order to blend in with the common population. Certain words like "need guts", "so exposed", and "no way I had the courage" show how she feels intimidated, weak, or even unsure of keeping the hijab and be open about her religion and identity. The phrases show her insecurity over her true self and belonging. So, she'd instead remove the hijab and 'pretend' to be like a 'normal' Australian teen.
The phrases from the text that show the narrator's attitude include:
