Read the paragraph.

Samuel Slater worked in a textile factory in Britain. Britain was the first country to invent a machine that spins thread. This spinning machine sped up the production of cloth. The British wanted to maintain their manufacturing advantage, so it was illegal to take the plans for those machines out of the country. It was also illegal for trained textile workers to leave. However, Samuel Slater wanted to go to the United States, so he left Britain in disguise. Once he reached the United States, he built a spinning machine from memory. By doing so, he brought industrialization to America.

Which of the following would be the best topic sentence to discuss Samuel Slater’s influence on industrialization?

1. Slater learned how to operate a spinning machine in Britain.
2. Slater ran a machine that speeded up cloth production.
3. Slater helped industrialization spread from Britain to the United States.
4. Slater broke the law that forbade taking plans out of the country.

Sunny Tells His Story

I was living in an animal shelter until Special Agent Rohmer picked me out one day. She said, “Let me see that one.” She took me out for a walk behind the kennel, petted me a few times, and the rest, shall we say, is history.

Rohmer had big plans for me. She wanted to train me to be a service dog. And you know who I was going to work for? Get this. The FBI! That’s the government group that solves mysteries and keeps us all safe. I felt so proud that I decided never to slurp my water or eat trash off the ground again.

Rohmer started working with me day and night. Everything was a command. She barked and yelped, “Do this, bring me that, pick this up, sit, heel, don’t move.” It was hard work, but she gave me treats for almost everything that I did right, plus a lot of affection, so I did it all for her.

Sometimes, she would show off what I could do to other people, saying, “You’ve got to see what my dog Sunny can do!” They’d watch and then exclaim as if I were a steak dinner and they hadn’t eaten for weeks. At those moments, I was a circus animal, performing to perfection. And everyone had the same words to say about me: I was sweet, gentle, docile, and obedient. And then they started saying others things, too, such as “That’s no service dog, Rohmer! That’s a therapy dog if I ever saw one.”

So that’s how I eventually got to be a therapy dog. It was my perfect behavior plus my soft as a pillow, sweet as candy way of acting. Soon I was doing my job. I had to make a big deal out of people who had been through a difficult experience. I had to love them up and cheer them up and give them something to hug. I had to look calmly and reassuringly into their eyes as if I knew what was behind them. And, sometimes, I just had to sit there and look good. Whatever the task, everyone says I’m perfect for the job, and I guess I have to agree.

Federal government policy Cotton cultivation Southern cultural ideologies B) How did enslaved African Americans resist the institution of slavery?

Answers

Answer:

A) The slave economy of the South had a worldwide economic reach since the majority of cotton was sold overseas and it connected the United States to the international marketplace.

B) They also resisted in more subtle ways, refusing privately to use names given to them by slave holders and maintaining their identity by keeping track of family members. Music, folk tales, and other African cultural forms also became weapons of resistance

hope this helped love <33

Answer:

A. The south had always been dependent on slaves or indentured servants to accomplish their main market which was the crops. Cotton cultivation was one of the main factors that led to the growth of slavery in the south. This is because there was more demand for cotton and therefore, there needed to be more people to work it. Apart from this, there was also the Southern cultural ideologies which had basically believed in slavery since the beginning. The south had always been based on cash crops and needed lots of people to work it. This led to slavery being part of the culture of the south.

B. There were many forms that African-Americans showed resistance. Some of these were rebellions, running away, causing work slowdowns, damaging tools and sabotaging and breaking the rules.
